Smart In Media Unveils SmartAssist: Multimodal AI, Embedded in the Digital Pathology Workflow
New AI assistant connects image context and pathology knowledge directly within the PathoZoom® Digital Lab IMS
Cologne, Germany / Stockholm, Sweden – September 2026 – Smart In Media today announced PathoZoom® SmartAssist, a new multimodal AI assistant developed specifically for pathology and integrated directly into the Image Management System and diagnostic platform PathoZoom® Digital Lab. SmartAssist will make its public debut at the European Congress of Pathology 2026 in Stockholm, ahead of its planned commercial release in November.
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly becoming part of pathology. Its impact, however, will depend not only on the performance of individual models but on how effectively AI is integrated into pathologists’ everyday work.
SmartAssist brings image-aware, conversational AI directly into the open case. Pathologists can capture the current field of view, select specific regions of interest or combine multiple images from different slides and stains. They can then ask contextual questions about visible histological features, morphological patterns, staining characteristics, potential differential considerations and relevant professional background information – without leaving their Digital Lab environment.
SmartAssist responds with structured, context-related information designed to support professional orientation and further evaluation.
